Kaci has a class conflict tongiht, and Kristin is also tied up.  I have a college meet at ECU, so I have asked Meg McDaniels to cover.  Kaci will be there from 5:00 to 5:30, and Meg will help after that.

Duke is hosting a novice meet on the 15th of October which is a Saturday.  It will run from 9:00 am to noon or so.  It will be a very low key, fun diving meet.  Competition and winning is not the goal.  It’s about the chance for divers to practice their dives in a meet.

Unfortunately, I will not be there, I will be out of town that weekend.  I will have a coach there to run the meet.

I encourage all of you to attend, even if your diver just started!

Other notes to pass along to you:

We will have our banquet next Wednesday on the 12th of October.  Due to it getting darker and cooler sooner outside, we will give out awards first from 5:1o to about 5:30.  Then the kids can dive until around 6:45, and then we can eat afterwards. 

We will be hosting a novice meet on the 3rd of December at Koury Natatorium.  More infromation about this will be forthcoming.

There is an NCAC swim meet this Saturday, so there will not be practice. 

We are going to have our end of summer / beginning of the year banquet for THD on Wednesday night, October 12th.  It will start around 6:45ish and will run to 7:00.  We will have it at the pool like we did last year.  Along with the current team members who will be present, the new THD families are invited as well.  It’s a great way for everyone to get together and celebrate the end of the year and start up the new year.

I would ask that everyone brings a dish to pass.  I will provide drinks and dessert.  It should run until about 7:15.

We will have practice Saturday 9/24 from 11:30 to about 1:00.  All groups may attend.

Secondly, for those of you returning, you need to register with USD asap.  If you compete, register your diver as a JO diver.

If you are not planning on competing, or are a beginner diver, google search “AAU DIVING” and sign up for the membership there.  It’s cheaper that United States Diving’s rate and is easier to regsiter there.  It’s very easy to do.  Registering provides you with additional insurance coverage in case there is ever an accident with your child while diving.

We will start our fall practice next Tuesday, September the 6th.  Our training times and fees are as follows:

BEGINNERS:  M/W/F (5:00 to 6:30)

JO:  M-F (5:00 to 7:00)

All JO divers will do conditioning every day from 5:00 to 5:30.  Kaci will run it most of the time, and it will consist of dryland, med ball work, core strength training, stretching etc.

PLATFORM PRACTICE:

We will go to the new Greensboro Aquatic Center on Wednesdays from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm, and Saturdays from 10:00 am to Noon.  We will start platform practice on September 14th.  Meg Callahan volunteered to be in charge of contacting those parents to work out a carpooling schedule.  We will be flexible with times on Wednesday when we first get started, so that we can make sure that everyone can make it.

Please send me an email, if you believe that your diver will want to dive platform.  Right now, I have the following families: Bradys, Dawsons, Revels, Callahans, and the McDaniels.  If anyone else is intersted, let me know.  I will coach the divers to the GAC on Wednesdays and Kaci will coach them on Saturdays.  The pool rent is covered through summer fundraising.  Kaci will be paid $20.00 an hour to coach, so $40.00 will need to be divided up each Saturday that she coaches.  We will share the diving well on Saturdays with the GAC team.  Pool rent will be $12.50 an hour on Saturdays when it is shared, and $25.00 and hour on Wednesday when we have the well to ourselves.  Use of the bubbler machine is $20.00 an hour.

Kaci will need to drive with a family to GAC.  I would prefer NOT to take any divers unless I need to.

FEES:

Beginners:  $120.00 a month.

JO:  $175.00 a month.

Registration:

Beginners:  $100.00 for the year

JO:  $150.00 for the year.

This registration fee probably will be more than that.  I am going to wait until after the USD convention to see what our travel schedule looks like for next spring and summer.  Summer of 2011 was brutal cost wise.

For the 1st half of the National Championships, our divers could not have done any better.  We competed in 3 events and all 4 divers in their events finaled, got a medal and scored points for THD.

In the girls 14-15 platform, Bailey competed the best 105 B of her life, scored 51.60 points, which got her into finals.  In that event, she finished 11th and Elissa Dawson finished 6th.

In the boys 12-13 1 meter event, Connor Callahan had a very strong showing in prelims, finishing 3rd, and then held that spot to finish with the bronze metal in finals.

And finally, in the girls 14-15 3 meter, Elissa finished 3rd in prelims, but nailed both her 405C and 305C for over 60 points and became THD’s 3rd National Champion!   Nick McCrory won platform during Summer JO’s as a 12-13 diver, and Julie Doran also won the 12-13 age group on 1 meter.

All in all, the team finished 18th place overall (combined boys and girls) out of 72 teams.  Great job divers!

We are finishing up the summer here next week.  There will be Saturday Practice from 10 to noon.  Jon Fox is going to stop by to say hello.

Next week, our last practice will be on Thursday AM.  There is a swim meet on Fri/Sat/Sun here.  I am leaving for Nationals on Thursday AM, so Kristin will run our last summer practice that morning.

After Junior Nationals are done, we are done training until September 6th, when practice starts up again.  We will have our 2011 award banquet again sometime in September.  I have not come up with the fall schedule yet.  That will come in mid August after I get back from Senior Nationals.

Thanks again for everyone for training with THD this year.   Your commitment to THD is greatly appreciated.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday: We will only run pm practices with myself being gone at Moultrie for zones.  Kristin will run those practices.  5:00 to 7:00.

Friday:  Regular 5-7 practice.

Saturday July 9th, NO practice.
