We had our Region meeting last Monday and here is a recap of the important things you need to know.
If you have a diver that is planning on diving in the meet, please let me know asap so I can generate a list and have our current coaches know who will be attending and what their dives are for the meet.
There will be TWO sign ups that will need the most help.  Meg M will put these online as she did for when we sold concessions earlier.  We will need concessions help and table work help.  I don’t have problems with HS students working each as long as an adult is around…esp for concessions.
We will also sell T-shirts through a company and I am checking to see if they will take THD team members if we wanted to create the design.  I will get back to you on this asap.
Coach’s hospitality will be run by Meg Callahan.  We also have the Duke Diving Team and GAC team helping out with some of the lunches.
I am still waiting for payments from a few families.  Please check your books.  I need to close the THD club account soon, so if you have no paid for April yet, please do so.  May tuition is more than likely going to go through Meg MacDaniels.
I will be having a send off party on the 13th of May at my house from noon to about 2:00.  May 11th will be my last day coaching the THD.  I will try to make it to the pool as much as I can in before the 11th, but Meg M and Tyler B will be taking over the coaching reigns through this transition.
We are done interviewing for my position.  Rich is not going through the next step of hiring.  Please be patient.  Hopefully in a week or so we will have a coache named.
We will have another meeting in a few weeks about summer Regions, so please mark it on your calender.
Kaci told me that she will be able to take divers to GAC on Saturday May 5th.  That will be the last day she can do it.
Attached is a letter for you to take to local businesses and see if they are able to donate food or cash items to the meet.

We had a successful National meet.  Owen Cox, Ben Radar, and Claire MacDaniels attended their 1st nationals.  There was much improvement in both dives and scores from their scores from their Region meet, which is tough to do at a Nationals where the scoring can be a little tighter.  Both Elissa Dawson and Connon Callahan aged up, which is always a challenge.  Both had some hits and misses, but Elissa was able to sneak in and medal on 1 meter.  Congrats to all of our divers.

We have excellent candidates in these next two weeks, so the hiring process is coming along.

Starting this Thursday, if any divers would like to get some extra training in (JO or Beginner) Meg volunteered to stay an extra half hour from 7:00 to 7:30.  We will do this every Monday and Thursday from 7:00 to 7:30.  This way, as we move forward towards the Regionals in June, we can start providing more practice for those who feel as if they need it.

Finally and most importantly, next MONDAY the 23rd of April, we will have an entire team meeting to get moving on the Regional meet we are hosting in June.  We will have it from 6:30 to about 7:00.  Please be there if you can.

There is a water polo tournament this weekend in the pool starting Friday, so we will not have practice then or Saturday.  Regular schedule next week, even though NCAC is off.

I am closing up the finances on THD for the month of April, leaving May open for the new THD coach.  Please have this month and last month caught up by the 10th of this month.  I am leaving for East Nationals on Thursday the 12th of next week.  I would like to have everyone paid by then.

Rich (head swimming and diving coach) will be interviewing candidates very soon, and hopefully in about 2 weeks we will have our new coach named.  The pool of applicants is quite stellar, with a lot of high level coaches.  I will keep you posted on the process as it moves along.

To keep you in the loop with my schedule and I wanted to post my coaching times so everyone is aware of the training, especially through the coaching transition over the next few months.

Mondays – I have Mongolian tutoring at 6:00, so it will be hard for me to make practice.  Meg and Tyler will be there.

Tuesdays – No more UNC divers going to GAC, I will be at the pool until 6:30.  I have ELS tutoring at 7.

Wednesdays – Going to GAC with age group divers.  We will be going on the following Wednesdays (3/14, 3/28, 4/4, 4/11, 4/18, 4/25).  I cannot commit to May yet until I know my schedule.

Thursdays – I will run practice until 6:45, then I have tutoring at 7:00 on campus.

Fridays – I will be there for the entire practice.

Saturdays – We will run practices when we can, very rarely will I be able to make a Saturday practice.

This schedule will run through April.  Meg and Tyler are going to be taking care of the month of May as far as transitioning goes.  We are hoping to hire by the 15th of April.  Once we know who the coach is, then the schedule for May will be set in stone.

When I get back from Men’s NCAA’s after next week, we need to set up another meetings and get the ball rolling for the Summer Region Championships.

Also, and more importantly, a HUGE thanks to everyone who chipped in and got me the nice going away card, cake and two gift cards.  Your kind gestures never go unnoticed, and I am very thankful and greatful I have such a wonderful parent groups.

I will set up a date in May to do a going away party at my house once my schedule clears up.  May will be a running non-stop tornado for me.

Congrats to all of you who dove at the recent Region Championships in Greensboro!  We had a wide mix of first time region competitors (Kevin, Alyssa, Izzy, Ben and Owen) and a few veterans (Elissa, Connor, Quinn and Claire).  All in all, we did great and I am proud of all of you.  It was VERY competitive and if anyone is frustrated with how they did, use it as motivation and learn from it.  The 1st Region meet can be tough, so getting the experience and seeing what dives the other divers in the area are doing helps.  Hopefully it will motivate those that went to their first meet, those thay may have just missed qualifying, or those that qualified.

Congrats to Elissa, Connor, Owen and Claire who made it to Nationals in DC next month.

There will be NO practice on Monday.  Meg did a fantastic job and needs a day off.  It was a lot of work for the divers, parents and coaches.  I will be back in town for Thurs night practice.

There will be no platform diving at Greensboro this Wednesday, because we are short coaches.  Meg will be home at Koury for practice on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Here’s the schedule for the week:

Monday and Tuesday normal practice at Koury.

Wednesday – BB game, so I will run a practice at GAC for anyone who wants to train or is going to the Region Meet.

Thursday – Meg will run a practice form 5:30 to 7:30 at the GAC for Region Divers.

Friday – Normal practice at Koury for those who can attend.  There will be practice at the GAC for those divers who are competing on Saturday.  Time is TBD.

Just a few notes about the Region Championships, especially for those of you who are going to your first region meet.  We will have practice this Saturday from 10:00 to about noon.
I will be running a practice at the GAC on Thursday from 5:30 to 7:30 for all Regions divers who are competing.  That will be a good time for your diver to get used to the boards.
You have about one day left to register for the meet, then there is a $100.00 late charge for entering.
The timeline of when your child will dive is pretty accurate on divemeets.com.  It is not exact, but it gives you a good idea.  Always check with a coach to see when the event will start.  I would make sure you have Kaci, Meg and Kristin’s cell number so you can text.  Just be patient and flexible.
The morning warm ups are EARLY, so be prepared to get some sleep and get ready for an early warm up!
The warm ups for the next day will be posted the prior day.  For example, on Friday, the coach will sign up for warm ups for Saturday, and then sometime on Friday, they will draw for that day.
Please be at the pool about 15 minutes prior to warm ups so your diver can stretch and warm up a bit before the event.
The top 6 divers qualify for the National meet in Washington DC.
