On Tuesday we start our fall diving schedule. We will have the same sechedule as last fall. The JO divers will train M/T/W/TH from 5:30 to 7:30. The Intermediate divers follow the same schedule. The beginners will train T/TH from 5:00 to 6:30. All groups will train from 5:00 to 6:50 or so on Fridays.

Kaci Hollingsworth will be added as staff this year. She is a great addition to the THD staff. Once the schedule is set, I will be taking Wednesdays off and some Fridays.

Also, Jon Fox will be returning the end of the month to visit. He asked me to have the banquet then, so that he can be here for it. I believe it is the weekend of the 24th to the 26th of Sept that he will be here. Details will be forthcoming.

Also, the fees will be the same as last year. Monthly fees: $120.00 for beginners, $140.00 for Intermediate, and $160.00 for JO. Yearly registration is $100.00 for beginners, and $150.00 for intermediat/JO. We are also looking at starting a HS diving program to start in October. Details will also be coming about this shortly as well.

I hope everyone is having a restful end of the summer.  We will start practice in two weeks.  Our first official day of practice will be September 7th, which is a Tuesday.

The fees will stay the same for the year.  $160.00 a month for JO divers, $140.00 a month for intermediate, and $120.00 a month for beginners.  We have a slew of divers that were listed as beginners last year, and now are moving towards the intermediate group.  I am suggesting that these divers train with the beginners one day a week and then the intermediate group the other 3 days.  It does not matter to me what day you choose to dive with the beginners.

Here is our schedule:

Monday:  Intermediate and JO = 5:30 to 7:30.

Tuesday/Thursday:  Int/JO = 5:30 to 7:30, Beginners 5:00 to 6:30.                     

Wednesday:  ONLY JO DIVERS 5:30 to 7:30.                                                                              

Friday:  All groups.  Time TBD.

Saturday practices will be run as always.  I will let you know mid-week if we are having Saturday pracitce.  If there is a football game/BB game, NO practice.

We will do our end of the year banquet in September.  I think it would be nice to have our beginner/new families there as well.  That date will be forthcoming!

First of all, congrats to Elissa Dawson and Connor Callahan.  Both of them had excellent National meets.  Connor competed very well on platform, and ended up with a great score, and walked away from the meet knowing what the competition is like at the highest possible level he can dive at.  Elissa Dawson, did awesome as well.  She managed to final again on 1 meter finishing 8th after moving up from 10th in prelims. Her 3 meter was great as was her platform.   The level of competition was tougher than we thought, but the exciting thing is that they showed many people that they can dive and be successful at Nationals. 

Last night we had our going away party for Jon Fox.  It was a nice “night cap” if you will to the summer season.  We had many people show up, which was a nice tribute and shows the impact he had on all of our lives.  If you were not able to make it, he will be around for a bit before he graduates.

Jon will be missed by all of us for various reasons.  He touched the lives of many divers and parents.  He is an excellent coach, and has an enormous about of passion for life in general.  I was very blessed to get to work with Jon.  Of course, he is an excellent diver, and great coach.  But what I will miss is the type of person he is.  Jon has a very caring nature and treats everyone with the highest form of integrity possible. 

Life is about the challenges that lie ahead of us, and how we decide to deal with issues and problems.  The good things in life are the simple things.  Great food, great people, watching those around us be successful.  The great things in life are when you meet exceptional people and they have an impact on our lives.  You should never let those people go.  I once read a quote that goes something like this.  “People come and go in our lives all the time.  Sometimes they stay around awhile, and sometimes they don’t.  But it’s those people that stay around for a time period, leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never the same.”  Jon is one of those guys.  I know he has for me, and I’m sure that he has left footprints on our hearts that will be there forever.

Bitter sweet.  Best to Jon Fox.

Our three zone divers did a wonderful job this past weekend.  We really could not have dove much better.

Conner qualified for the Speedo National Championships with 3 top 6 finishes.  Elissa also finished in the top 6 on all three levels too, winning the platform and 1 meter, and finishing 2nd of 3 meter.  Bailey pulled out the most consistent meet of her life on platform finishing top 6 and also qualified for nationals.

It was probably the best over all level of diving I have been a part of in all of my years of coaching.  It was wonderful to see.

The schedule for the week.  I am leaving for Seniors on Wednesday.  The only schedule change is that Jon will start practice Thursday night @ 6:00 instead of our usual 5:00 start.  Practice will be done by 7:30.

We WILL have Saturday practice from 10:00 to about noon.

There is a novice meet at the FARM on Thursday from 5-8.  It’s  a great meet for our beginners.  I will be up in DC for a meet, but Elise Stave (who dives for me with the college divers) will be there to help out the THD divers.

The meet was a success.  All 4 of our divers medaled, and we had a couple of Region Champions!  Alison Ruvidich dove in her first Region meet and placed 10th on 1 meter.  Conner Callahan placed 4th on 3 meter, 4th on 1 meter and won platform!  Bailey Revels placed 7th on both 1 meter and 3 meter and 3rd on platform, and Elissa Dawson grabbed 1st place in each event winning 1, 3 and platform!  Great job divers.  All of you have qualified for the zone meet which is the qualifying meet for the National Championships.  That meet will be held in the DC area over the 4th of July weekend.
